Gil’s Hootenanny 2017 Sing-Along Songwriting Contest Now Open for Entries

April 1st is the deadline to submit your song to the Gil’s Hootenanny “Songs of Hope and Protest” Sing-Along Songwriting Contest. Linked to May Day celebrations, this contest has given rise to some excellent musical creations from Canadian songwriters such as Tony Turner, who won in 2015 with his legendary song, Harperman.

Now open for entries, the contest encourages sing-along song submissions from songwriters in two categories:

  • “Open” (19 and over), and
  • “Young Composer” (18 and younger).

Contest judges are former contest winners and folk music enthusiasts.

The timelines for the Songwriting Contest are:

  • Entries must be submitted by 5 pm, April 1st, 2017.
  • Finalists will be notified by April 15, 2017.
  • Finalists’ songs will be performed at 4 pm, April 22, 2017 at the Ottawa Grassroots Festival.
  • The winning song will be performed May 1, 2017 at Gil’s Hootenanny.

The rules, guidelines, and registration form are on the Spirit of Rasputin’s website here… The registration form allows you to upload an mp3 file and accompanying lyric sheet.
